Product Highlights
The BKK Spear-21 UVO treble hook is designed for lure anglers who want instant sharpness, reliable fish holding, and improved visibility in challenging conditions. Built for freshwater lure fishing, it combines a hook geometry optimized for solid hooksets, a fine wire for fast penetration, and an UV coating intended to improve visual contrast in the water column. This model has become a go-to choice for rigging many lures thanks to its versatility and its balance of light weight and strength.
Its Orange Ultra Violet (UVO) treatment is designed to reflect available UV light underwater, which can help make the hook more visible in dark water, at depth, or when light levels are low. The Spear-21 UVO is therefore ideal for anglers looking to maximize holding power and overall rig performance without complicating lure presentation.

Benefits and Key Product Advantages
The main advantage of the BKK Spear-21 UVO lies in combining instant penetration with durability designed to last. The needle-sharp points are made to drive in quickly, even on fast strikes or when the fish hits away from the mouth. This responsiveness often translates into a better strike-to-hookup conversion rate, especially in active fishing where you cast and work the lure repeatedly.
The carbon steel design aims to balance strength and elasticity: the hook must withstand pressure (head shakes, hard fights, and unhooking) while maintaining its sharpness. The forged shank adds rigidity to the overall structure, which is especially valuable when rigging lures for aggressive predatory fish.
The UV coating offers a functional advantage whenever UV light is present in the water. In practice, it can enhance the contrast signature around the lure, particularly in low-visibility environments. Without changing the action, this detail can help define the visual profile of a setup while also giving it a distinctive look.
Finally, the Spear-21 UVO stands out for its versatility: its moderate shank length and bend shape make it suitable for many lure types, delivering a clean presentation and consistent performance. It works well with steady retrieves (swimbaits), pulls and pauses (minnows), and explosive strikes on topwater lures.
Usage Tips
To get the most from this treble hook for lures, first check that the hook size matches the lure body: the goal is to keep enough freedom of movement without affecting the swim action or causing tangles. When replacing hooks, inspect the split rings and use proper pliers to avoid deformation.
After your session, rinse with fresh water if you fished in dirty water (sediment, vegetation) and dry the setup to help limit oxidation. Regularly inspect the points: a very sharp hook is an effective hook. If the hook hits a rock, shell, or other obstacle, a visual and tactile check can help you detect any loss of hookset performance.
For the coating to be most effective, focus on situations where visibility matters: stained water, low light, shaded areas, or fishing at depths where contrast can help. The idea is to keep a natural lure presentation while benefiting from an additional visual cue.
FAQ
Question 1: What is the purpose of the UVO coating on a treble hook?

Question 2: Is this treble hook suitable for freshwater predator fishing?
Answer: Yes, it is designed for freshwater lure fishing and is suitable for typical use on a variety of predatory species, as long as the hook size matches the lure used.
Question 3: What types of lures can it be used with?
Answer: It can be used on a wide range of lures, including swimbaits, crankbaits, minnows, and topwater lures, thanks to its versatile geometry and moderate shank length.
