BKK Spear-21 SS Treble Hook

Product Highlights

The BKK Spear-21 SS is a treble hook designed to deliver maximum efficiency when fishing with a relatively light drag setting, where every bite must turn into a solid hookup without requiring heavy pressure. Its design focuses on fast, deep penetration to improve hook-up rates, including on subtle strikes or fish that take the lure cautiously.

The combination of a round bend shape and a fine wire diameter (1X) promotes immediate point entry with reduced resistance. This is further enhanced by the needle point, engineered to stay extremely sharp, helping create a firmer hold from the very first moments of the fight.

To go even further, BKK’s Super Slide coating, based on PTFE, is designed to reduce friction at the moment of penetration. The expected result is a smoother point entry and better efficiency when pressure is moderate. Finally, the carbon steel material from the Diamond Series (BKK-81WV) is chosen to combine strength and elasticity, with the goal of maintaining a high-performing point through repeated strikes and fights.

Benefits and Product Strengths

This model stands out for its well-balanced approach: slim enough to maximize penetration, yet built for durability. The forged shank helps secure the hook under repeated stress (casts, retrieves, strikes, and fights), while the material provides the necessary rigidity without sacrificing a degree of elasticity, which helps reduce accidental bending.

The Super Slide coating is especially appealing for anglers looking for a responsive hook that bites quickly as soon as a fish takes the lure. By reducing friction, it helps achieve cleaner entry and limits resistance during penetration, which can make the difference when fishing with light drag or with lures that call for short hook sets.

Thanks to its medium-length shank, the BKK Spear-21 SS can be used on many lure profiles without unnecessarily affecting swimming action. This versatility makes it a smart choice for building a reliable hook box, suitable for several lure families and a wide range of fishing situations.

Usage Tips

To get the best performance from this treble hook, first check that the hook size matches the lure’s profile: the goal is to preserve natural action while ensuring effective hook-up performance. When rigging, make sure the point orientation follows the lure’s design logic (avoid a point that rubs against the body or a split ring), and check that the assembly can move freely.

After a session, rinse and dry your hooks if they have been exposed to moisture, then store them in a ventilated tackle box. Inspect the points regularly: even high-quality steel can dull depending on obstacles, repeated contact, or fights. A simple visual inspection and a light thumbnail test are usually enough to identify a point that needs replacing.

FAQ

Question 1: What types of lures is the BKK Spear-21 SS suitable for?

Answer: It is designed for versatile use on many lures, including swimbaits, crankbaits, minnows, and topwater lures, thanks to its medium-length shank.

Question 2: What is the benefit of the Super Slide (PTFE) coating?

Answer: It is designed to reduce friction and piercing resistance, improving penetration with lower pressure and helping achieve more effective hook sets.

Question 3: Is this model more focused on power or finesse?

Answer: It prioritizes finesse for penetration (fine wire diameter) while maintaining a durable design, with a forged shank and carbon steel selected for strength and point retention.
