The SMITH D-CONTACT is a high-density sinking minnow designed for technical trout and predator fishing in flowing water. Its compact silhouette and refined profile let it hold position in the strongest current seams while maintaining a stable, controlled action. Thanks to meticulous Japanese design, this hard trout lure provides an excellent balance of casting distance, precision, and attractivity.
The internal mass distribution leverages inertia to generate a dynamic body-twisting movement that constantly seeks to re-balance. This tight, lively oscillation creates strong vibrations and subtle lateral flashes that trigger strikes, even from educated fish. Combined with a realistic finish and a restrained sound signature, the SMITH D-CONTACT stands out as a reference among sinking trout lures for fast rivers, mountain torrents, and deep zones that are hard to prospect with a classic floating minnow.
Technical features
High-density sinking minnow specially designed for strong currents and deep areas.
Optimized internal weight distribution for long, accurate casts even in windy conditions.
Natural rolling and tight wobbling action, highly reactive to the slightest rod input.
Compact body with strong water penetration, allowing the angler to keep consistent contact with the lure.
Split rings and discreet-finish hooks with limited reflection spectrum to avoid artificial glints that may spook wary fish.
Detailed finishes inspired by natural prey: worked flanks, harmonious balance, and great stability at various retrieval speeds.
Designed for use with modern trout lure fishing rigs and fine techniques for small- and medium-sized predators.
Benefits and key strengths
The main asset of the SMITH D-CONTACT is its ability to remain in the strike zone where other minnows lose contact or exit the targeted water layer too quickly. Its high density allows it to reach fish-holding depths quickly, then maintain a steady trajectory even in very turbulent seams. The angler retains permanent control over its action and can clearly feel vibrations transmitted through the line.
Another major advantage is its versatility. This sinking minnow excels in straight retrieve casts but is equally deadly when worked with twitching, jerking, or controlled danding in pools. Each rod twitch triggers a series of contortions and course changes that perfectly mimic a distressed baitfish—an ideal target for trout, perch, chub, or opportunistic small predators.
Finally, SMITH's manufacturing quality ensures remarkable durability: resistant paint, reliable hardware, and components chosen to withstand repeated river fishing stresses. It is a long-lasting investment for anglers seeking a reference sinking trout lure to optimize sessions on heavily fished beats.
Usage tips
To get the best from the SMITH D-CONTACT, pair it with a sensitive rod having a fast or semi-fast action to effectively transmit animations while keeping good bite detection. Use a line or leader diameter adapted to the environment and targeted fish size, favoring discreet rigs for clear water.
In rivers, cast slightly upstream or quarter-upstream and accompany the drift while maintaining contact with the lure. A slow retrieve punctuated by small sharp twitches works wonders for working edges, current breaks, heads, and pool exits. In lakes or reservoirs, let it sink to the desired depth before starting the retrieve, alternating continuous retrieval phases and pauses to trigger hesitant follows.
Don't hesitate to vary retrieve speed, twitch amplitude, and pause length. This sinking trout lure was designed to remain stable and attractive in a wide range of situations, making it an excellent choice for exploring a new river or insisting on well-known spots.
